In memoriam
Prof. Dr. Olga Galbova (1960-2023)

The Society of Physicists of Macedonia is deeply saddened by the untimely death of our dear professor, colleague and friend, Olga Galbova, who passed away on 3 August 2023. Prof. Olga Galbova was the president of the scientific committee of several editions of our conference and one of the key persons for its growth and international establishment. For this reason, the 15th Conference of the Society of Physicists of Macedonia will be dedicated to her memory.

Olga Galbova was a full professor at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics - Skopje (PMF), Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje. She was born on 6 November 1960, in Tashkent, present-day Uzbekistan. She has completed her studies in applied physics at the Faculty of Physics in Skopje in 1984. Starting from April 1985 she was employed at the Institute of Physics at PMF - Skopje. She has completed her postgraduate studies in theoretical physics in 1991 and her PhD studies in 1997 at the same faculty. Her research interest was in the field of theoretical condensed matter physics with a focus on electroacoustic and thermomagnetic phenomena in low-dimensional conductors. She has participated in many research projects and had a fruitful international collaboration, successfully completing numerous study visits abroad, in Ukraine, Italy, Bulgaria, Denmark, Sweden, USA, Greece, England, Poland etc. She was very passionate about physics and astronomy, spreading her enthusiasm to younger colleagues and students. In the course of her teaching career, Prof. Galbova was involved in different subjects from theoretical physics, such as quantum mechanics, special and general theory of relativity, quantum field theory, theoretical electrodynamics, as well as the courses from general physics, astronomy and ballistics.

In the period 2004 - 2007, Prof. Galbova was the head of the Institute of Physics at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics - Skopje.

Prof. Galbova was one of the most active members of the Society of Physicists of Macedonia, being a part of the advisory board, managing board and the committees for physics competitions. She was recognized as a devoted president of the scientific committee of the conference of the Society of Physicists of Macedonia, fostering its international character and raising its scientific level. In honor of her legacy we try to follow the way she paved for us.

We admired and appreciated our Olja for her exceptional wisdom, brilliant thinking, kindness and supportive attitude towards all her colleagues and students. We sorely miss her.
